MAT Texas

Who We Are

MAT Texas opened in 2021 to provide an alternative to the standard Opioid Treatment Program. From day one the founders and staff have been committed to offering patients a warm and welcoming environment and a recovery experience that puts the patient first.

Our Founders started with the idea that a patient’s experience in recovery was just as important as any of the medications or therapy types used. Long lines, limited intake days and hours, unfriendly staff, etc., would not be present. Instead, our founders wanted to offer patients a clean and safe facility, friendly staff and highly effective substance abuse recovery services.

Since then, the company has continued to grow by staying committed to keeping the needs and success of our patients front and center.

Recovery Journey Today

Methadone

Methadone is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) as a medication-assisted treatment (MAT), as well as for pain management. Methadone helps individuals achieve and sustain recovery from substance use disorder and reclaim active and meaningful lives. When taken as prescribed, methadone is safe and effective. Methadone, a long-acting opioid agonist, reduces opioid craving and withdrawal and blunts or blocks the effects of opioids. Methadone, taken daily, is available in liquid, powder, and diskette forms.

Buprenorphine
Buprenorphine is an opioid partial agonist. When taken as prescribed,  buprenorphine is safe and effective. Buprenorphine has unique pharmacological  properties that help:
• Diminish the effects of physical dependency to opioids, such as
   withdrawal symptoms and cravings
• Increase safety in cases of overdose
• Lower the potential for misuse
Naloxone

Naloxone is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids, such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone. Administered when a patient is showing signs of opioid overdose, naloxone is a temporary treatment and its effects do not last long. Therefore, it is critical to obtain medical intervention as soon as possible after administering/receiving naloxone.

Sara Dahlberg
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)

Learn More

I am an experienced professional dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. My own path in this field began in 2016 when I entered recovery myself, an experience that profoundly shaped my understanding of the challenges and triumphs that accompany this process. Inspired by my own journey, I embarked on the path to become a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), starting my studies in 2019 and achieving my licensure in 2024. I hold an Associate’s degree in Mental Health Substance Abuse Counseling, which has equipped me with a solid foundation in the theories and practices essential for helping clients navigate their personal recovery journeys.

I believe that empathy and compassion are crucial in this line of work; I strive to meet each patient where they are at in their unique recovery process. I understand that recovery is not a linear path, and each individual’s experience is distinct. This understanding allows me to connect deeply with my clients, fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect.

My approach is client-centered, focusing on providing the tools and strategies that my patients need to achieve their recovery goals. I work collaboratively with each individual, recognizing their strengths and empowering them to take ownership of their recovery. I pride myself on my ability to listen, support, and guide my clients through the complexities of recovery, helping them to overcome obstacles and celebrate their progress.

It is my mission to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel valued and understood. I am passionate about helping others find their path to healing and believe that with the right support, anyone can achieve their recovery goals. I am committed to walking alongside my clients every step of the way, fostering hope and resilience in their journey toward a healthier, fulfilling life.

Mike Doud
Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)

Learn More

My name is Mike. I grew up, or at least older, in New Hampshire before finding my way to Texas. I served two years in the Peace Corps /India after college, bounced around Asia for 6 more, then got a business degree and job working for 35 years in import/export logistics. Facing retirement when my last employer was bought out, I got my LCDC license and started counseling. Have done so since 2017. I am in recovery. Not recovered, but recovering, and sober for 15 years. I struggled with drugs, mostly alcohol, for 50 years straight, largely hidden to all but those closest to me. I still think of reasons to slip but find far more compelling reasons not to. I attribute my change to family, friends, 12 steps and most of all my Higher Power. This second career offers me a chance to occasionally clear the view for others to see and do the same.
